For The Old Folks
This is for the old folks I guess they need a thought or two
Sitting in their rocking chairs too tired to feel blue
Trying to remember, trying to recall
Trying to ease the pain of knowing that we all must fall
Walking on a tightrope made of cigarettes
Living for the days that’s past, and haven’t faded yet
This is for the old folks, for all who sit and wait
This is for the dreams that you’ll be taking to the grave
And when all’s said and done can you tell me what you’ve learned
Guess you got no answer despite every rock you’ve turned
And soon you’ll have to leave this place, alone and so afraid
Beside the hole in the double-bed where your loved one laid
You fight to it make through another day
Lately I’ve been feeling like my life ain’t going nowhere
And sometimes when I’m down and out, well I don’t even care
Feeling like an old man, tired of chasing dreams
Denied of all the answers, because I don’t believe
And when all’s said and done and all you know for sure
Is that you don’t know anything that helps you when you go
Then finally you to turn to him as the desperation comes
Looking for the answers that you have searched so long
Not knowing what was right and what was wrong
This is for the old folks and it’s for me and you
This is for the ones who live with nothing left to lose
