That it even became an album is something of a miracle. But it shows the incredible ability of human nature to rise to the occasion. The recording took place during a particularly dark period for the duo, during which Susanne’s sister was murdered and her own relationship collapsed. Jan relapsed into severe addiction. The first recordings were pitch black.
But things turned around. Jan confronted his demons and returned to a sober and creative life, and Susanne slowly recovered. Both were marked and scarred by what had happened, but stronger and on their way to something new. A magical album began to take shape. In all the darkness, light began to seep in.
